On The Road Again...

...can you imagine starting this day with a more appropriate and famous line?

After three busy weeks on campus, the Savanna Traveling Studio has set out on another journey! This time we are heading south - with stops in St. Louis, Johnson Shut-Ins State Park, Memphis, Homochito National Forest, New Orleans and our final destination - Horn Island.

Lake Itasca, MN - the headwaters of the Mississippi River
(image from the North trip)

While standing in the headwaters of the Mississippi, we learned that a drop of rain takes approximately 90 days to travel the entire 2340 miles down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. This photograph was taken on September 13. We have spent a fair bit of time mapping our watersheds and considering our impact on the landscape. The students will continue to share their experiences with you as we continue to weave the Mississippi finally arriving on Horn Island the Gulf of Mexico on November 7.

((As always, internet connections are often limited but we will make an effort to create new blog postings as soon as we have a good connection and warm fingers again.))

We would love to hear from you too!

Julie
