BWCA!!!

Boundary Waters

Early Saturday morning we left from the Canadian Waters Outfitters with seven students and one instructor.
Ready to GO!

Our journey started off well, we quickly learned how to read the map and find were the portages were and were not. Soon we found a campsite to set up camp and have some lunch. The first item of business was to do a plant walk. We chose to go to a nearby portage to map out the path and plants. While on the walk we learned how to measure the height of trees and we learned about many different native plants to Minnesota. Once done with the plant walk we canoed back to our campsite and then had a lay down of our work.

Day 2: Boundary Waters

Day two we woke with a lot of things to do. Wanting a free day the next day we needed to get a watercolor done, and a Dubé project finished. We started with the watercolors, which was to be a painting of the scenery around the island.

After having a lay down we had a couple hours to do lunch and hang out, then it was back to work. The purpose of the Dubé project was for us to better understand the different patterns in the environment. We all set out to draw a picture of the landscape that matched a verb that was given to us and then we needed to break down the different elements within that landscape.

Day 3: Boundary Waters

The third day we were given a free day to do our Goldsworthy Land Art Project. We all had been collecting materials for our projects previous to this day so we all went to our chosen destinations and worked til we were done. Here are a few pictures of some of the final outcomes.

Day 4: Boundary Waters

The fourth day was the day we were heading out of the boundary water. We got up at 7am to start packing our stuff so we were on the water by 8am. We switched up the canoe groups and headed to the final portage. On our way we ran into Michael Martins group at their campsite, so we stopped and chatted about all adventures, but we soon had to be on our way again. After 2 hours we were finally at the beginning of the last portage, which was half a mile long. So we grabbed our gear and weathered the rocky trail but we were finally out! Overall, we all had a really good time and we all got to know each other a lot more. The nights may have been super cold and the days may have been tough at times but we all learned to work together and it brought us all closer. We wouldn't change a thing!
