BWCA | Snowbank to Disappointment, Ahsub, Jitterbug, Adventure to Jordan

Julie's Group!
Early Saturday morning we set off on a journey most of us will never forget, the Boundary Waters. We lucked out early that morning, where it so happened to be super sunny and the water was smooth as could be out on Snowbank Lake. When we reached the opposite end of the lake we had to carry all our luggage and canoes through a trail called a portage (also known as a Portugal as made famous by Austin J.). The journey to our first campsite took us approximately 7 ½ miles of canoeing, 1 ½ miles of walking, all across 5 different lakes to our campsite at Lake Jorden. Star gazing with the crew was awesome.

Our second day was full of activities, though we slept in till about 9 and cooked breakfast of bacon and eggs which turned into a two hour ordeal, due to cooking difficulties. After Breakfast we all worked on our Andy Goldsworthy projects and a few of us did some water colors. This took about all day to complete and it is also the night where we learned how to limit our dishes by eating out of cups instead of plates.

The Third day of our trip we had decided to set canoeing again, to get a little closer to the end of our journey to make it easier the following day. When we stopped at one of the portages to eat lunch, the rest of us did our water colors of a very cool wet land area off of the Lake Ahsub. While doing our water colors we had also ended up crossing paths with Doug’s group and a few other interesting groups of people. After we had finished our water colors we did a little botanizing to learn a few trees and plants of the mixed Boreal and Deciduous forest Biome. After that we continued onto our new campsite located on an island in the middle of Disappointment Lake.

Our final day in the Boundary Waters We decided to settle to do some personal drawings for our sketchbooks. Bright and early that morning Chad and I had a close encounter with Merica’s National bird the Bald Eagle, Probably one of the biggest I have ever seen. After we finished all of our drawings, we headed back to Snowbank Lake to be picked up at 3.

A shout out to Jiahuan for her power canoeing, a special thanks to Katie for making the majority of all the food, to Professor J for being super cool, and to the rest of the gang for an awesome adventure in the Boundary Waters.
